The public reading will enable us to 'retrace Inge Morath's footsteps' from the end of the Second World War to the 1960s. The letters and essays span the period from the start of her work in Salzburg immediately after the end of the war to her years in Vienna, the encounter with the Magnum agency in Paris, and her first major reportages in the United States and in Spain. Austrian actress Susanne Czepl will read excerpts from Inge Morath's vivid and candid letters to her parents.

With its exhibition Inge Morath − Bilder und Briefe. Biografische Materialien aus dem Archiv, the FOTOHOF archiv offers an insight into more than twenty years of collaboration with the renowned Magnum photographer. Seven exhibitions complete with photography books were produced during that time, with the curators of the FOTOHOF − Brigitte Blüml-Kaindl and Kurt Kaindl − accompanying her during her photography work.

As a result the FOTOHOF archiv is able to draw on a wealth of correspondence, initial contact copies, early image drafts and exhibition-ready prints to showcase Inge Morath's work method and her way of thinking. Inge Morath's original prints themselves are of course at the heart of this workshop report by the FOTOHOF archiv. Her oeuvre is further expanded by documentary photographs of her studio in Roxbury, USA. These photographs by Kurt Kaindl were taken during numerous stays while preparing exhibitions and photography books.
